About Us/Me

Hello! We are Brian and Rick and thank you for taking the time to check us out! We met in 2009 at a work event and as soon as it became legal to tie the knot, we did! We adopted our daughter Harper as a newborn in 2019. We had such an amazing adoption experience that we knew this was the way we wanted to continue growing our family. When we asked Harper if she wanted a brother or sister, she reminded us she already had one brother (we rescued our dog Joey over eight years ago). When we started talking with her about having another baby join our family, she got very excited. She will be an awesome big sister! Since Harper joined our lives, we try to do all that we can together as a family. Evenings will find us talking about our days, making dinner, and spending time together before bath, books, and bed. On the weekends, we’ll cook breakfast (waffles are a favorite), and either stay in playing with toys, doing arts and crafts, playing games, or we’ll go on a day trip to the zoo or a park or visit with family. We really enjoy spending time together and look forward to having another child on the journey with all of us.

Family is very important to us. We are lucky to be surrounded by lots of family and really good friends and enjoy spending time with them. Harper is showered with a lot of love as will any new additions to our family!

Another cool thing is that Brian is adopted, so adoption has always been special to us and everyone we love. We both value education – each of us have several degrees – and good jobs. Brian leads a nonprofit focused on improving our community and teaches classes at a local university. Rick works in risk management at our local health system. We purchased a home about 6 years ago and enjoy the various projects that come with home ownership. The neighborhood is great – it’s safe, close to schools, on a quiet street, with friendly people and something always fun to do. All our neighbors love Harper and they treat her like their own child or grandchild. Outside of work and home projects, we love to travel. We also enjoy volunteering, being active in church, camping, swimming in our pool, and being outside. While we love all holidays, Christmas is our favorite time of year. In fact, Brian gets to play Santa throughout the season!

We have several things that are important to us as we look at adding to our family.  First, love. We want our kids to feel loved every single day for who they are and who they want to be. We want them to have respect for themselves and others. We want them to feel safe and free to explore their passions, whatever they may be. Our children may want to get involved in athletics or learn a new hobby, we will be “all in” and support them as they figure out this thing called life. We can’t wait to wear the big photo button on our coats featuring our kids doing what they love most! And finally, we want them to laugh – in good times and the tough times. We feel the best days are those where laughter fills every room of our house. We can’t wait to add to our family again. Being dads is our favorite thing in the world. Our family has so much love and we can't wait to share that love even more!

About You

There's no way for us to express how much we admire and appreciate you. Children who are adopted are awesome, which makes their moms awesome too! Our child will not only have a mother who is brave and strong, but they will also have dads who are brave and strong too. It's amazing that a child's story can be filled with love from so many people. You will always have a place in the relationship as our child's birth mother, just as Harper's birth mother and father will forever have a place in our life. Growing up, any time Brian asked about his adoption, the answers were always focused on love. We promise to raise our children the same way - with love for their mom, love for their daddies, and love for the process that brought us all together. We send you love as you look through profiles and hope you're surrounded by strength, love, and kindness. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
