About Us/Me

Hey there! We are Nick & Vickie:) We are so glad you clicked on our profile. So to begin, a little bit about ourselves:

We are what they call “high school sweet-hearts” or better yet, “home-town hunnies.” We got married young by today's standards and will be celebrating our 15th marriage anniversary in the fall. We have been through a couple deployments, medical school training, and traveled far and wide.

About Nick:

I grew up just 5 miles from Vickie. I am the youngest of three with two older brothers. My family is/was a blue collar family where my dad worked in the automotive industry and my mother held various jobs with the postal service, humane society, and later in social work. Our family was formed prior to me existing. You see, my dad had my brother Jeff through a previous relationship, and my mom had my brother Norm through a previous relationship. So technically my brothers are half brothers to me, but we have grown up our entire lives together and it’s a fleeting thought.

My childhood was a typical one growing up in northwest ohio. I played quite a few different sports and eventually honed in on really loving baseball. My mentality has and remains one that will try anything once. For example, my high school experience was quite different than most in our region, as I joined a technical school for Public Safety. I had a great time and it really propelled me into the next chapter of my life, The United States Air Force.

I spent 7 years in the Air National Guard with multiple deployments for various operations throughout Southwest Asia and many trips for various training throughout the country. During my time enlisted, I obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant and made friends all over the world. For the last decade since being out of the military, I have worked in retail ops, marketing ops, and most recently, human resources where I was recruited by my brother. Today, I get to help serve 460 employees alongside my two brothers, cousins, and some extremely talented folks. I also am so grateful to have full support from my job and my family with planning for adoption.

Typically, I look to the past to help predict the future, but lately my head has been futuristic as Vickie and I prepare for the next chapters of life. As I’m told by many parents out there that you’ll never feel fully prepared to have a child, I feel Vickie and I are well equipped in all ways to provide a loving home that fosters learning, exploration, and positivity towards humanity. Of course, I say that now while not sleep deprived.

About Vickie:

I grew up just 5 miles from Nick. I was the youngest of four; two older sisters and one older brother. Growing up, I was a pretty active child and participated in sports such as volleyball and basketball. Even into adulthood, I remained active and on any given weekend you can find Nick and I exploring the great outdoors; camping, kayaking, biking, hiking, and skiing.  Interested in health & wellness, I decided to start my career as a licensed massage therapist and esthetician for which I practiced for 6 years. During this time, Nick was in the military and was required to leave on multiple deployments for extended periods of time. Therefore, I used that time to feed my thirst for knowledge.

With my passion for holistic health, I obtained my degree in Nutrition Science. Following graduation, I was hired at a supplementary food program called Women’s, Infants, & Childrens, also known as WIC. At WIC, I was a Nutrition educator for pregnant and postpartum women as well as children from newborn to age 5 years old. After working with WIC for two years, I decided I wanted to play a more prominent, dedicated role in treating the whole person. From there, I went on to medical school to train as a doctor and decided to specialize in Family Medicine. I’m finishing up my 3-year Family Medicine residency program at Case Western/University Hospital CMC in Cleveland Ohio. Why a Family Medicine doctor? Well, Family Medicine takes a holistic approach to healthcare. Family physicians treat patients from all ages, from infancy to elderly, and place a strong emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention. But most importantly, I know that family is important in our overall health! That is why I have dedicated my time to investing, not only my own family, but to the community at large. With all that being said, here we are, at a time of our life where we want to expand on our own family.

We started by adopting Blue, our cattle dog last year. And this year, we initiated the process of adopting a baby. We always knew we were going to adopt! We discussed it during the VERY beginning of our relationship. The decision just felt right and honestly, we just want to be parents through all of the life stages. We are just giddy thinking about it!
