About Us/Me

We are Kateri, Drew, and Oriadna (5)!

Thank you so much for taking the time to look at our profile. We hope that through our profile you will get to know a little bit more about us and consider choosing us to be a part of your family.

We live in Arlington, Virginia, right outside of Washington DC, with a dog and two cats rounding out the family. Some of our favorite at home pastimes are doing arts and crafts, baking, gardening, playing in the yard, and neighborhood playdates and BBQs. We also get out of the house often on “adventures” to experience the wealth of attractions, history, and culture in the DC area, from wandering through Smithsonian museums to sunny days at the pool or in a park. In addition to the adventures near home, we enjoy taking trips out of town to visit friends and family and experience new things - like our trip to Seattle to celebrate Kateri’s grandfather’s 90th birthday, where Ori got to ride on her first ferry!

Kateri is an only-child who grew up in New Mexico where she was raised by her mom and stepdad, after losing her father to cancer when she was 8 years old. Drew and his family (dad, mom, brother, and sister) moved every few years in support of his dad’s career as a Navy pilot. He lived in Florida, Rhode Island, California, and Illinois all before he turned 13 years old! Kateri and Drew are both quite close with their families and Ori loves her grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins - when she can’t visit them in person, she talks with them by video call where they happily entertain her desire show them her new dance moves or test out new video filters on Facebook Messenger.

Kateri and Drew met in St. Louis, Missouri and moved soon after to Miami, Florida. Five years later, after buying a house, adopting a dog, and learning their relationship could survive the good and bad, they got engaged and married. They also decided that instead of a honeymoon, they would uproot and take work positions in Bogotá, Colombia (they did eventually go on a real honeymoon!). Two years after getting married, they had Ori while still living in Colombia. One of Ori’s first words was “agua” (water, in Spanish), and not only does she still speak Spanish as part of her bilingual education curriculum, but she still loves baths, pools, and beaches more than just about anything else!

About You

We are so grateful that you have decided to look at our profile. We have always dreamed of welcoming more children into our family through adoption and thank you for considering us to be a part of your journey.

We can’t begin to imagine what a difficult decision this must be, and only hope that you will find relief in knowing your child will be welcomed into our family and showered with love and kindness. We understand that you might not know what level of involvement you want right now or years into the future, but we hope that you will also consider being a part of our family. We hope to have a close bond with you that is based on a mutual love for your child, but also on mutual respect. We feel very strongly that there is no such thing as too much love in any child’s life and we are open to relationships with others who you would like to be a part of your child’s life.

To us, “family” has a broader meaning and includes more than just the people who live under our roof. We believe family extends beyond our house, to our neighbors, co-workers, and all those around us. And that all beings deserve unconditional love and kindness. We strive to create an environment where everyone knows they are loved “no matter what" - as Ori reminds us, this means we love her the same amount regardless if she’s on her best behavior or she’s cutting a sleeve off her shirt to use it in a craft project. Needless to say, we are given lots of opportunities to prove just how much we love her on a daily basis!

Thank you again for taking the time to get to know us. We look forward to getting to know you and welcoming you and your child into our family.
