About Us/Me

Hello! We’re Alex & Emily and our three year old son, Ezekiel, whom we call Zeke! The other two members of our fam are our two rescue dogs, Callie and Benny. We live in the Northern Virginia area near the mountains, more country-side than DC!

From Alex: Emily is a loving and sacrificial wife, mother, and friend. Ever since Emily was a little girl, she dreamed of having a big family and being a mother to many different children. What she probably didn’t know then was how much would be required of her. What she also probably didn’t know was how perfectly made she was to be a mother. She constantly puts the needs of others before herself. When Zeke has a cold, she can be found “sleeping” in an uncomfortable chair in his room with Zeke snoozing comfortably on her chest. The next morning she has a big smile - giving to her family brings her so much joy. Besides caring for her family, Emily is very close to other women in her women’s group which she hosts at our house, leads Mother of Preschoolers group for our area, and leads a small group of high school women. Before Zeke was born, she gained a lot of experience as a Kindergarten and Montessori teacher, which she now uses to get Zeke prepared for school in a few years.

From Emily: Alex is a hard-working, loyal, and completely loving husband and father.  He works about thirty minutes away from our house and is a partner of a Wealth Management firm.  We are lucky to have him home by 5 every day and enjoy our nightly family dinners catching up on our days.  He loves to play pickup basketball at our gym and leads a men’s small group at our house on Tuesday nights. He prioritizes family time and is easy going when I have crazy ideas I want to do as a family or in our house. I think my favorite thing to see is how excited Zeke gets every single time Al comes in the door after work, yelling “daddy’s home!!” at the top of his lungs. Their bond is deep and I know that love will only grow with more children!

Zeke is our little wild thing at three years old!  He is full of energy and lights up a room. I love how kind he is becoming as he tries to include everyone in everything he does, whether that is simply smiling and waving at every person we pass or sharing a toy with his friends.  Zeke and I spend most of our days playing outside in the backyard or the park down the street, at playdates with friends, or in our basement playroom playing with his current HotWheel cars obsession. This kid has boogie fever and loves to dance along to any song!  He loves his friends and is always asking to pray for them and go to their house to play. He is so excited about our family growing and talks about “the baby” and “when they come home” all the time. We can’t wait to see the bond our children will have!

Alex & I met our freshman year of college and have been married for almost seven years and together for almost ten, which completely flew by!  We see the value in working on our marriage daily through communication, quality time, and prayer. We have always wanted to expand our family through biological, adopted, and foster children.  While trying to have biological children we have lost several babies, but were blessed with sweet Zeke! Our plan for our family is to adopt (probably more than one child!), pursue future biological children, and become a foster family while being open to adoption from fostering.  We simply love children and feel like we have so much love to give to many!

Our Friday nights look like family dance parties to cheesy 80s music and our current game of choice is Monopoly deal (we are slightly competitive when it comes to meaningless card games!)  We are very lucky that all of our grandparents and most great-grandparents live within driving distance and we get to visit them all the time. Em’s parents and grandparents live near Virginia Beach so we love to head down during the summer and get as much time on the beach as we can. Alex’s parents live in the area and are a big part of our weekly life.  We both have two siblings each who are married off to spouses we adore and we love getting to visit Colorado, Chicago, and Arizona to see them all. We love Facetiming with them whenever we are able to stay connected from such a distance. Our dream would be to have the entire family local, but we are still attempting to convince everyone of that!

We surround ourselves with people who lift us up and encourage us to be the best we can be and also love our family and child as their own.  Our friends are beyond excited to be a part of our adoption journey and cannot wait to welcome another kiddo into the bunch. We have a very diverse group of friends and are always eager to have people over for dinner and nights around the fire pit with the kids running wild.  It’s always loud, but also incredibly fun to be living life with people who just understand this is how it’s going to be for a few years! With the overwhelming, hands-on support of our immediate family and close friends, we feel very ready to meet our dreams of a big family.

We are a family that believes in loving each other hard and sticking together through the trials and triumphs.  We believe in each other’s hopes, dreams, and passions, and do everything in our power to see each other succeed. We love exploring the great outdoors and snuggling on the couch.  We strive to thrive in the chaos life can throw and never forget where we come from. We cannot wait to see where this journey takes us as we welcome in new family members!

About You

How we wish we could be sitting down together having a cup of coffee and getting to know each other! You have been on our minds and in our hearts for so long now, and we look forward to the day we can meet and begin this journey together.  Our prayer for you is that you know you are seen, respected, prayed for, and loved by us. We will be eternally grateful for your decision to place your child in our family, and know that you will always have a place in our hearts and at our table.  Our promise to you is that this child will always know every part of their story with no shame and total, loving acceptance.
